Which global index fund is best for you? | Fidelity UK

Important information - the value of investments and the income from them can go down as well as up, so you may get back less than you invest. Global index tracking funds are the Levi 501s of investing - affordable, never out of fashion and a good fit for a whole range of different people. This can create the impression that all global trackers are the same - or at least very similar. But as our analysis below shows, funds which offer global index tracking on the surface can be very different underneath.Across the Fidelity Personal Investing platform there are eight funds that you can fairly describe as global trackers, where costs are the lowest available and your money is invested across the world according to market capitalisation-weighted indices - i.e. where funds are allocated to companies according to their size.It does not include exchange traded funds (ETFs), some of which also replicate the performance of indices. It also does not include the funds which invest globally and are invested passively but with particular emphasis - such as companies paying high dividends. Each of these funds is invested according to an underlying benchmark index which offers ‘global’ exposure. Across the eight funds there are six different indices represented, plus some variations where the UK is excluded.

I'm trying to write some unit tests for some legacy JavaScript code, and I want these unit tests to use TypeScript so i can have some sort of type safety. I pull this off by loading a global file before my tests run. That 2nd one is more confusing to me, because I have an interface definition right above it. If I put a const in front of State, the errors turn into a warning: State is assigned a value but never used. In my test, I have a line like this: const State = (global as any).State; Before I modified anything above, this worked fine, but now that I've changed State in the global file, I don't know how to refer to it anymore.I can't tell if I'm going about this completely wrong or I'm getting closer to solving the problem. How can I modify (global as any).State in the global file so that it's no longer using any, but it's still a global variable? Are you looking to type a global variable that's set outside of your Typescript code, or the global variable (e.g. window, global, self)? ... On the linked dupe, make sure you go with the most-upvoted answer rather than the objectively awful accepted one.

globalThis - JavaScript | MDN

This feature is well established and works across many devices and browser versions. It’s been available across browsers since ⁨January 2020⁩. ... The globalThis global property contains the global this value, which is usually akin to the global object. Historically, accessing the global object has required different syntax in different JavaScript environments. On the web you can use window, self, or frames - but in Web Workers only self will work. In Node.js none of these work, and you must instead use global.Unlike similar properties such as window and self, it's guaranteed to work in window and non-window contexts. In this way, you can access the global object in a consistent manner without having to know which environment the code is being run in.Note: globalThis is generally the same concept as the global object (i.e., adding properties to globalThis makes them global variables) — this is the case for browsers and Node — but hosts are allowed to provide a different value for globalThis that's unrelated to the global object. In many engines globalThis will be a reference to the actual global object, but in web browsers, due to iframe and cross-window security considerations, it references a Proxy around the actual global object (which you can't directly access).

r/typescript on Reddit: Global Variables

For context, I've created numerous APIs using Express with JS and I wanted to see if I can recreate those APIs but this time in TS. However, I've run into a problem: how do you create global variables in TypeScript? I'm not asking if I should be using Global Variables, or should I reinvent my existing architecture to not use Global Variables; I just need to know how to do it. I've tried endlessly Googling this and while I've come close to finding a solution none of them seem to fit the bill. For example: http://marcinbiernat.pl/2020/03/nodejs-globals/ This guy just has him declaring things and it works perfectly. The problem I have with it is: I don't want the declarations to clog up index.ts for example. How do I separate my declarations from my code?Create a @types folder on your root, and a window.d.ts file inside of it. Edit the global Window interface adding the global methodsI guess this is what you mean, check some of the comments, that provide different ways and discussions: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/38906359/create-a-global-variable-in-typescript

As window has been declared by the standard Ambient type from Typescript library. The better approach is to extend this type like this · declare global { interface Window { MY_GREETING_MESSAGE: string } } window.MY_GREETING_MESSAGE = 'Hi Earth!'The answer is pretty straight, because the interface Window which declare for this global window variable does not have MY_GREETING_MESSAGE propertyTLDR; for someone who have a limit of time // instead of this (window as...
